🧶 Wooly Nest Basic Felting Guide
(Boardwalk Bandit Set)
✨ What You’re Making
- Seagull
- French Fries
Both pieces use the same simple felting method — just different shapes.
🪡 Tools Needed
- Felting needle
- Felting pad
- Wool pieces (included)
🧠 Before You Start
- Poke straight up and down (don’t bend the needle)
- Start soft, then slowly firm it up
- Take your time — shaping matters most 🙂
🧱 Step 1: Make the Base Shapes
Seagull (Round Body)
- Roll wool into a large ball
- Shape into a slightly oval body
- Flatten the bottom so it sits upright
- Keep it smooth and rounded
French Fries (Small Tubes)
- Roll small pieces of wool into short cylinders
- Keep them slightly uneven for a natural look
- Make 2–4 fries depending on your set
🐦 Step 2: Add Details
Seagull
- Add two small wings (oval shapes) to the sides
- Add a small tail at the back
- Add tiny feet at the bottom
- Keep everything simple and soft
Beak + Fry
- Shape a small piece into a rounded beak
- Attach it to the face
- Place one fry into the beak and gently felt it in place
👉 This creates the “bandit” look
😊 Step 3: Add the Face
- Use small pieces of black wool
- Lightly poke to create:
- Two eyes
👉 Keep the face minimal — simple = cuter
🔒 Step 4: Firm & Refine
- Lightly poke the entire figure to:
- Secure all parts
- Smooth loose fibers
- Refine the shape
🎉 You’re Done!
Your piece should feel:
- Soft but structured
- Clean and balanced
- Playful and expressive
💡 Pro Tip
Slightly uneven fries and a slightly crooked beak
make it look more natural and full of character.
