Tutorial for Arctic Companions (Penguin and Ice Fisher)
🧶 Wooly Nest Basic Felting Guide
(Arctic Companions Set)
✨ What You’re Making
- Penguin
- Ice Fisher
Both characters use the same simple felting method — just shaped differently.
🪡 Tools Needed
- Felting needle
- Felting pad
- Wool pieces (included)
🧠 Before You Start
- Poke straight up and down (don’t bend the needle)
- Start soft, then slowly firm it up
- Go slow — shaping is the most important part 🙂
🧱 Step 1: Make the Base Shapes
Penguin (Round Body)
- Roll wool into a large ball
- Shape into a slightly oval body
- Flatten the bottom so it sits upright
- Keep it smooth and rounded
Ice Fisher (Small Upright Figure)
- Roll wool into a small oval
- Keep it slightly taller than wide
- Leave space for the hood and arms
🐧 Step 2: Add Details
Penguin
- Add two small wings to the sides
- Add a white belly patch
- Add tiny feet at the base
- Keep everything soft and simple
Ice Fisher
- Build up the body into a coat shape
- Wrap wool around the head to form a large hood
- Add small arms in front
- Add tiny boots at the bottom
🎣 Step 3: Add Accessories
Ice Fisher
- Shape a small piece into a tiny fish
- Place it between the hands and lightly felt it in place
👉 Keep the fish simple — just a small soft shape
😊 Step 4: Add the Face
For BOTH characters:
- Use small pieces of black wool
- Lightly poke to create:
- Eyes
- Simple mouth
Penguin
- Add a small beak (yellow wool)
Ice Fisher
- Keep the face minimal and soft inside the hood
🔒 Step 5: Final Touch
- Lightly poke everything to:
- Secure all pieces
- Smooth loose fibers
- Refine shapes
🎉 You’re Done!
Your set should feel:
- Soft but structured
- Cozy and balanced
- Full of personality
💡 Pro Tip
A slightly oversized hood and rounded penguin shape
make the set feel extra cute and “cozy”.
